PTSL was engaged by Auckland Transport to investigate the operation of the Route 380 Airport service between the Manukau Bus Interchange and the western end of SH20B Puhinui Road where it enters the Auckland Airport. The study was required to investigate operational issues and delays for the Route 380 and to identify options for improvement prior to the introduction of a new airport bus, Route 30.
The study reviewed bus journey time data to
identify locations where the bus experienced delays or had poor journey time reliability. Based on this data and from observations of buses along the route, improvement measures were identified. The main locations for delay along the route were through Papatoetoe Town Centre and this included accessibility to key bus stops in the town centre and by Papatoetoe Railway Station. Options investigated included modifications to the operation of key intersections and short sections of bus lane on the approaches to the town centre to provide a facility for buses to bypass congestion.
PTSL developed concept and detailed designs to improve the access to the bus stops, including the introduction of Kassel kerbs to improve accessibility to buses.
PTSL prepared resolution reports and drawings for the traffic and parking controls through Papatoetoe town centre and for the bus stops serving the station.
